Been Dreaming Lately?

dreaming-blog-mediumRecently at our Meditation Mondays here at Renew where we take time to meditate on God’s word, we’ve been considering some of the things the Lord has spoken to us as a ministry over the past couple years. We wanted to review these things to help cast vision for the future and keep ourselves accountable to His leading. God can speak to us in many ways – through His Word, through other people, through His still small voice, and through dreams, just to name a few. Dreams have been a consistent part of how I and others among our ministry family have heard from God. Of course this should be no surprise considering how often God spoke to people through dreams in the Bible.

God revealed the glorious reality of angels and heaven to Jacob. God used dreams to give Joseph direction for his own life and even how to save Egypt along with his own tribe. Daniel received detailed information about the distant future in his dreams, things the Lord gave to him for our benefit even today. God continued to give dreams in the New Testament as well. Both Mary and Joseph received vital direction from angels in their dreams. The apostle Paul received important direction to take his ministry to Macedonia. And He still speaks through dreams today! He gives them to us to (1) give us guidance and direction for our lives, (2) warn us of future events for which we should PRAY and/or ACT, and (3) just to let us know we’re His children and He loves us and wants to share His heart!

“For God speaks again and again, though people do not recognize it. He speaks in dreams, in visions of the night, when deep sleep falls on people as they lie in their beds. He whispers in their ears and terrifies them with warnings. He makes them turn from doing wrong; he keeps them from pride. He protects them from the grave; from crossing over the river of death.”
Job 33:14-18 NLT.

I remember one dream I had early on in my time at Renew. I dreamt I was riding in my car down a winding and hilly country road. David was driving and I was the passenger. He was driving fast, and suddenly there appeared a dirt drive on the right. He swerved in and before I knew it we were through a grove of trees and driving in the grass through a huge open meadow. We went up and down hills, almost flying through the air. Then we came to a large ravine and it wasn’t looking so good! I thought, surely we’ll fall right in and crash. But just as we hit the edge, we flew across and landed on the other side without any harm. I was amazed! The dream continued like this for a little while longer with us continually flying over larger and larger ravines. I woke up and realized the Lord was showing me that (1) he was moving our ministry FAST and (2) although it would look at times like we were in trouble and about to crash, His hand would guide us through the air over every trouble spot. Ever since I had that dream, I’ve had faith to hold on when things have seemed to be moving way too fast for me to keep up. It’s also helped us make tough decisions to press forward through personal, spiritual, and financial situations that seemed impossible to overcome from man’s perspective. And sure enough, the Lord has carried us through every time – and man, have things really moved fast around here!

Here are 3 keys I’ve found that help if you want to hear more from God in dreams:

  1. Get a good night’s sleep. Make sure you get 7 or 8 solid hours each night. God gives rest to those He loves, and you can’t dream if you don’t sleep!
  2. Journal your dreams. As soon as you wake from a dream, write it down immediately! Don’t wait. If you wait it will often fade. Once they’re written, you can go back to them from time to time and ask Him for clarity. Upon making this a discipline, over time you’ll find it’s easier and easier to understand the meaning of your dreams!
  3. Pray. Ask God to speak to you in dreams. Once you have them, pray for wisdom to interpret them. Always go first to the Bible. Ask God for verses that help you understand your dream. You can also ask others who you know reliably hear from God in dreams.

I pray that God will give you rest and dreams!

The words you have shared have encouraged me to move forward. I would like to share the dream if your interested. Praise God for your ministry
